Description

In 1961 the ANSI Standard A117.1 was presented as the first criteria for accessibility to be approved as an American National Standard. The standard has continually been updated, with an emphasis put on developing a standard that is compatible with the building code.

One of the biggest additions to the 2017 edition are enhanced dimensions for clear floor spaces and turning spaces. These increases were in response to technical data regarding the space needed by persons using scooters and some types of motorized wheelchairs. These enhanced provisions only apply to new buildings and facilities. Where existing buildings and facilities are remodeled, the historic dimensions will still apply. The new standard continues to provide coordination between the accessible provisions of this standard and the Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines (FHAG) and the 2010 Standard for Accessible Design referenced by the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA).

This course will subject the student to these main changes:

● Chapter 1 Application Administration
● Chapter 3 Building Blocks
● Chapter 4 Accessible Routes
● Chapter 5 General Site and Building Elements
● Chapter 6 Plumbing Elements and Facilities
● Chapter 7 Communication Elements and Features
● Chapter 8 Special Rooms and Spaces
● Chapter 9 Furnishing and Equipment
● Chapter 10 Recreational Facilities
● Chapter 11 Dwelling Units and Sleeping Units

This allows learning focus to be at its highest and provides consistent skills that can be utilized by every team member throughout the organization.  When an entire team learns the same skills and competencies, it bridges the communication disconnects that often occur and ensures peak performance throughout the team.

eLearning opportunities provide organizations and individuals with various benefits including, but not limited to:

Cost Effective Training
Flexible and Nimble Education
Scalable Professional Development
Engaging Learning Environment
High Quality Measurable Results
